Boot directly to the desktop in Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 has included new features, It also includes option to bypass the Start screen at log-in, so your PC can go straightly to your desktop. Lets see how to enable it.

Microsoft has did a good work on the start screen. Start screen is good for Windows 8 touch screen devices, but when it comes to PCs you may prefer desktop to boot directly into it. In Windows 8 you have to create bootdesktop.scf or by Start8 methods but in Windows 8.1 has a simple option to do it natively.

How to boot directly to the desktop in Windows 8.1

Here is how to

  1. Right click on windows 8.1 taskbar, choose properties.
  2. Go to navigation tab, make a check mark on “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start“.

Next time when you boot Windows 8.1 your PC will take you directly into desktop by skipping Start screen.
